Our last full day in Barcelona

We are up early enough but John is not so eager to go to Montserrat as it is raining there so I guess we will save that for another time if we get back to Barcelona. Perhaps another cruise as many begin and end here. I would like to see more of Spain as well, Madrid and the south of Spain, cross into Morocco and then to Lisbon, Portugal to see friends there. Maybe someday...

We decided we would do laundry and be ready for the cruise tomorrow.  We still toyed with ideas of what to do today when we discovered we could not open the washing machine door (front loading) and we could not get our clothing out!  We tried everything but finally contacted Dany.  He came by and could not get it open either, so he left, then came back again with a screwdriver and pried the door open.  I am sure is broken and I feel bad about that but also relieved that we got our clothing out!  Ugh.  We were hungry by then so John went down stairs and got us some take out food.  We have eaten all our groceries except the eggs, which we will eat for breakfast.  This was not quite what we planned for our last day in Barcelona but we relaxed and enjoyed the books we are reading.

I think my brain will relax a bit more with hearing mostly English on the ship.  They speak Catalan and Spanish here in Barcelona. Catalan has words like Spanish and Portuguese. Then hearing the cousins speaking French really muddled my brain!  It is so wonderful that their children and grandchildren all speak at least three languages. What a disservice our schools and our own families do our children in not teaching at least Spanish in grammar school. I guess it is a matter of pride from the past and being American and speaking English, I am not sure.

Goodnight from Barcelona!
